Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. Born on March 15, 1767 in the Waxhaw Settlement in South Carolina; though just a boy, participated in the battle of Hanging Rock during the Revolution, captured by the British and imprisoned. William C. C. Claiborne practiced law in Tennessee and became judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee in 1796. He became governor of the Territory of Mississippi in 1801 and was appointed to receive Louisiana from France in 1803. James L. Barton was born near Geneva, N.Y.; he came to Lewiston with his father in 1807. Engaged in the forwarding business from Lewiston to Buffalo; moved to Buffalo in 1832, where he formed a partnership with Samuel Wilkeson.
